WELCOME TO OUR OFFICE

Before

YOUR FIRST SESSION

FILL OUT THE INTAKE FORMS
  1. Take time to thoughtfully complete all forms that have been emailed to
    your primary email.

  2. Your responses help me understand your needs and help us both make
    the most of our time.

  3. If you have questions regarding the intake forms, or need clarification please contact our admin team or call the office!

REFLECT ON YOUR GOALS
  1. Take some time to think about the challenges you're facing, what prompted you to reach out, and what you'd like to gain from therapy, even if it’s not entirely clear yet.

  2. Consider any questions you might have about the counselling process, your therapist’s approach, or what therapy might look.

  3. You may wish to write these down to bring to your session.

PRACTICAL PREPERATIONS
  1. Find a private, quiet space for virtual sessions, where you won’t be interrupted. Ensure you have a strong, secure wi-fi connection & use headphones for added privacy.

  2. Arrive 5-10 minutes early for in-person sessions. If admin is unavailable, please have a seat in the waiting room & I will come find you!

  3. Consider bringing a notebook to jot down insights, questions or thoughts through-out
    your session!

During

YOUR FIRST SESSION

GET AQUAINTED (5O MINUTES)
  1. Your therapist will introduce themselves and review important information about privacy, confidentiality, and informed consent.

  2. To better understand your situation and needs, your therapist may ask about your emotional well-being, relationships, life experiences, support systems, physical health, & any previous experiences with counselling.

  3. This is an opportunity to ask questions & voice any concerns.

COLLABORATIVE PLANNING
  1. The session will focus on understanding you, your reasons for seeking therapy, your personal history, and any current challenges you're experiencing.

  2. Your therapist will suggest an approach tailored to you.

  3. The first session is also an opportunity for you to see how it feels to work with your therapist and to notice whether the connection feels comfortable and supportive for you.

  4. Together, you'll begin exploring potential goals and approaches for therapy.

KEEP IN MIND
  1. You don’t need to prepare a script or know exactly what to say. Your therapist will guide the conversation with care and curiosity, helping you explore what’s most important to you.

  2. You are encouraged to share at your own pace. There is no pressure to disclose anything before you're ready.

  3. Sessions may conclude with reflection, readings, and/or small homework assignments.

Frequently Asked

AND OUR ANSWERS

WHAT IS THE DURATION TIME OF A SESSION?
WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO RESCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS?
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I BE
SEEING MY THERAPIST?

Our 50-minute sessions follow the standard therapeutic hour model. This allows your therapist 10 minutes after your appointment to complete session notes and required forms. For you, it allows time to book further appointments, settle payments, & gathering any belongings before heading out!

There are several ways to reschedule appointments. You can call our admin team, 604-746-2025 If no one is available please leave a detailed message.  Email our Admin team; admin@eternacounselling.ca

The frequency of sessions depends on your individual needs and goals. Your therapist may suggest an outline, but ultimately it depends on your goals, your availability & financial discretion. We understand that therapy is an investment, and are always open to working together to find a session frequency that supports your journey. Together we can determine a schedule that works best for your unique journey

WHAT IS YOUR
CANCELLATION POLICY?
WHAT IF I WANT TO CHANGE MY THERAPIST?
HOW LONG SHOULD I ATTEND COUNSELLING?

We require 48 hours’ notice for cancellations to avoid a late cancellation fee—which is 100% of your session rate.

The therapeutic relationship is fundamental to your progress, & finding the right match is important to us. If you feel your current therapist isn’t the best fit, please let us know. You can speak directly with our front desk team. We’ll work with you to find a better match within our practice or provide appropriate referrals if needed.

The length of your therapeutic journey is highly individualized. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy focusing on specific issues over a few months, while others find value in longer-term support for ongoing personal growth or complex challenges. There’s no predetermined timeline—your therapy will progress at your own pace.
