Josh Miller
REGISTERED SOCIAL WORKER | RSW
We stay stuck in isolation.
We learn and heal through connection and relationship.
I'm Josh Miller, a therapist at Eterna Counselling & Wellness in Abbotsford who works with young adults navigating some of life's most layered experiences, queer and LGBTQ+ clients, and children and youth.
You could be journeying self-exploration in a world of systems designed to oppress us or, maybe, you’re a young adult carrying more than you expected at this point in your life.
You could be a kid trying to make sense of big emotions or experiences you don’t have the words for yet.
My Approach?
Genuine Care and Connection.
Here's what I know: courage isn’t having all the answers – it's choosing to show up without them. You can start your journey by simply being and a commitment to beginning. I’ll meet you there, and together we’ll re-author a story that feels true to who you are and who you’re becoming.
I believe the relationship between therapist and client is where most of the healing actually happens. I'm here to sit with you in it, ask the questions that open things up, and help you make sense of your own story. The work is collaborative, which means your experience leads, and I help you explore what it all means.

WHO I WORK WITH
Young Adults (ages 18 to 35) who
are working through transitions, self-worth, anxiety, burnout, or the pressure of figuring out their path.
Queer & LGBTQ+ Clients (ages 18 to 35) who are looking for a genuinely affirming space to explore identity, relationships, and the unique stressors of queer experience.
Children & Youth (ages 6 to 17) who are navigating emotional regulation, identity, school stress, peer relationships, and family dynamics.
MAYBE YOU'RE HERE BECAUSE...
1
You're a Young Adult and Life Feels Heavier Than You Expected
Young adults generally between 18 and 35 who are in the thick of figuring out who they are and what they want. You might be navigating school, early career stress, relationship changes, questions about your values and direction, anxiety, burnout, or a persistent sense that you should be further along by now.
2
You're Queer or LGBTQ+ and Want a Space Where Your Story is Understood in Context
Queer and LGBTQ+ individuals of any age who are navigating identity, coming out, relationship dynamics, minority stress, family rejection, or the exhaustion of existing in spaces that weren't built with you in mind. You might be early in your journey or years into it. Either way, you deserve a therapist who sees you and your experiences.
3
You're a Child or Youth Whose Story Holds More Than Others See
Children and youth between the ages of 6 and 17 who are navigating big emotions, social dynamics, identity questions, school stress, family changes, or a sense that something feels off but they can't quite name it. Often the kids and teens I work with are bright, perceptive, and deeply feeling. They just haven't had the right space to process what they're carrying.

COMMITMENT TO COLLABORATIVE CARE
I will see you as a whole person and we’ll center your lived experience.
I will support you in exploring your thoughts and feelings, so you can find what feels true to you.
I will be your partner in care and invite you to share feedback about what’s working and how I can best support you.
I will sit with you in the discomfort of growth.
My Approach?
MAKING MEANING, RE-AUTHORING YOUR STORY
I approach therapy as a relational, collaborative process. That means your experience leads the work and I help you explore meaning, patterns, and possibility with empathy and steadfast curiosity. I'm not directing you toward a predetermined outcome. I will partner with you to walk various paths of discovery – long, short, or uphill both ways – no shortcuts.
With children and younger youth, I utilize play-based and developmentally informed approaches. For young people, play and creativity is their language of expression more powerful than words alone. I meet them there and work alongside parents and caregivers to make sure the support extends beyond our sessions.
With older youth, queer clients, and young adults, I work a lot through narrative exploration. We look at the stories you've been told about yourself, the ones you've internalized along the way, and we examine which ones are actually true and which ones are worth challenging.
Narrative Therapy
We look at the stories shaping your life and your sense of self. Some were written for you. Some you wrote. Together we figure out which ones to keep, which ones to rewrite, and which ones to let go.
Relational Therapy
The relationship between us is part of the work. I use what happens in our sessions to help you understand and build healthier patterns in all your relationships.
Play-Based Approaches
Younger clients (Children & Youth), play is the language. I use developmentally appropriate tools that meet kids where they are, not where adults think they should be.
Trauma Informed Practices
Everything we do together is shaped by an understanding of how stress and adversity live in the body and brain. You won't be pushed faster than you're ready to go.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy
Rather than fighting uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, we work on building your capacity to move with them toward what actually matters to you.
Strengths-Based Practice
I'm not focused on what's wrong with you. I'm interested in what you're already doing well and how we build from there.

MY CORE VALUES
Healing Happens in Connection
I believe the therapeutic relationship itself is one of the most powerful tools we have. When someone feels genuinely seen and cared for, something shifts. I work hard to build relationships rooted in trust, warmth, and real attentiveness, because that foundation is what makes the rest of the work possible.
You Are the Expert on Your Own Life
The work we do together is about helping you access what you already know, challenge what's no longer serving you, and build clarity from the inside out. I bring empathy, curiosity, and a relational approach. You bring everything that makes you who you are.
Courage Looks Like Showing Up
You don't need to arrive to therapy ready. You don't need to have the right words or know exactly what's wrong. Showing up is the act of courage. From there, we figure it out together. I believe meaningful change comes not from having all the answers but from being willing to ask the hard questions and stay with what comes up.
HOW I GOT HERE:
As a queer man, I am passionate about creating inclusive communities whereby we address and recognize systems of harm and honour your human experience. Whether you’re seeking to find greater understanding of yourself, navigate life’s stressors, or identify unhelpful patterns I’m here to empower you towards values-alignment, facilitate change, and live into your fullest potential.
Prior to becoming a social worker and therapist, I worked in child and family services. I am equally passionate about supporting children’s mental health, social-emotional learning, and parenting supports. I utilize play-based approaches to understand and connect with children while supporting families navigate the growingly complex aspects of parenting in the modern-day world.
