Do you or others consider yourself as a ‘doer’ or a ‘giver’, someone who is always on the go, who does it all? If so, then this post is for you! I am going to be talking about how the “do it all” method of living can affect our nervous system, which ultimately affects our mind, body, and soul. Our society has accepted a culture that relaxation is seen as unproductive or lazy and that working beyond 40 hours a week at your job is an admirable trait. But at what cost? Let’s explore our nervous system and how we can reconnect ourselves with foods that support our nervous system.
We spend so much time being ‘on’ whether it is for your job, your children, tasks around the house, caregiving, listening to friends, family members’ struggles, or whatever dominates your time. When looking at this behavior and the nervous system, this creates a disconnection from our bodies as it keeps us stuck in a fight, flight, or freeze response and where we can’t find the turn-off switch.
What is the nervous system?
The autonomic nervous system controls involuntary processes like heart rate, digestion, respiratory rate, and sexual arousal. This means that when we keep our bodies in the fight, flight, or freeze response, then our body struggles to perform these tasks adequately which decreases our overall health; this dis-ease is causing diseases that so many of us struggle with. This dis-connection to our body is common as new studies have showcased that over 85% of people live in a constant state of fight-flight-freeze.
There are a number of ways we can reconnect, nourish, and calm our nervous system; one very powerful way is through food. Studies have shown that a number of healthy fruits and vegetables especially root vegetables can significantly increase your nervous system healing; where possible choose organic produce.

Healing takes time when using nature’s way and it could take up to 3 months for your body to get the nourishment to do the deep healing with the nervous system, but it’s lasting compared to covering symptoms up with pharmaceuticals.
The connection between your body, mind, and spirit is so crucial in overall good health, which is why eating foods that can heal our nervous system is so important.
