I can’t believe it’s my last blog for 2022, and the end of 2022 has come upon us so quickly. I feel there is no better time for us to talk about Reflection.
The last few years had made us more isolated from each other, which I feel inevitably forced us to reflect on ourselves, whether we wanted to or not. When we reflect, we examine and explore aspects of ourselves that often gives us insight into what we may be thinking or feeling. Reflection is an important tool that allows us to empathize, celebrate our successes, and give ourselves some compassion. Reflection also allows us to come up with different ways to approach things, as well as understand others better.
When I reflect on 2022, I am so grateful for so many opportunities that have allowed me to be BOLD, find harmony, and develop connections. I feel grateful for all of my clients who have shared their stories with me, who have allowed me to be part of their growth journey, and for how much they have also helped me grow. This year has taught me to set boundaries for those things that may not serve me, and to make sure that I ask the people in my life what they need so that I know how to show up for them.
One of the ways that I love to reflect is through music. Recently I went to a concert, and I felt completely moved by the lyrics and music being presented on stage. I felt myself reflecting on my life as I listened to the words she was saying. I felt free, I felt validated. It was an empowering experience. Three days later, I continue to listen to the same songs in my car or in my apartment, and it takes me back to those feelings all over again. Music is truly powerful. Reflection and music are similar as they can help unveil different aspects of us, and help open us up to other aspects of ourselves.
There are other ways people reflect, such as journalling, prayer, and meditation. These different styles of reflecting all aim to do the same thing. I challenge you to try different ways of reflecting, and find one that suits you best. Take some time to reflect on 2022, and reflect on what you hope 2023 will bring into your life. Instead of thinking about what you NEED or SHOULD do in 2023, think about what or who you hope comes into your life in 2023.
“Be a reflection of what you’d like to receive. If you want love, give love. If you want truth, be truthful. If you want respect, give respect. What you give out will return to you.”
Kristen Butler
I look forward to connecting with many more of you in 2023!
