Self-care has become quite the buzz term over the last few years, particularly since the start of the pandemic – but what does self-care mean to you? It can be easy to identify self-care as bubble baths and manicures (and sometimes, it is!), but it can also be so much more. Today, I want to give you some tips on how to create a self-care plan that works for you.
Finding things that can contribute to reviving your energy levels, help you feel relaxed and rested, and re-filling your cup in order to continue tackling your daily responsibilities is key when considering proper self-care.
Some simple and necessary ways to practice self-care are to get adequate sleep, maintain a healthy lifestyle with proper nutrition, and practice good hygiene. In addition to this, you can cater your self-care plan to your individual preferences.
To create practices that will benefit you the most, you first need to identify some of the causes of stress in your life. Examples may be work, relationships, social situations, too much screen time (social media and otherwise), not enough movement in the day – the list can go on.
Once you have created your list, you can start identifying specific things that can combat the stressor.
- Not enough movement – schedule movement breaks/reminders into your day.
- Too much screen time – create a limit or set a timer on your phone so you know when to switch off.
- Relationships – allow for some alone time, read self-development books, journal for reflection
By personalizing these self-care strategies, they will be more effective for what you have going on in your own life. You can keep working to grow these strategies with continued self-discovery by trying new things and figuring out your values, while mindfully reflecting on what is needed for YOU throughout the process.
Self-care is so important – be sure to make it your own, and enjoy the benefits!
